WSP is currently initiating a search for a full-time Lead Electrical Engineer - Electrification for our Seattle, WA or any one of our Southern California offices.Be involved in projects with our NW Pacific Power and Energy Team and be a part of a rapidly expanding group that provides trusted advisors and engineers of record services to clients in the energy sector.This OpportunityAs a Lead Consultant Electrical Engineer, you'll play a crucial role in various electrification projects across public and private sectors. Your responsibilities will span from feasibility studies to detailed design. Here's what you'll be doing:Engineering Design and Documentation:

  • **Site Layout and Equipment Layout:**
  • Collaborate with other disciplines to create efficient site layouts that optimize space utilization and safety.
  • Ensure proper electrical equipment, substations, charging stations, and other infrastructure placement.
  • **Power Single-Line Diagrams (SLDs):**
  • Develop SLDs for both low voltage (LV) and medium voltage (MV) systems.
  • Represent the electrical connections, components, and protection devices in a simplified format.
  • **Cable Schedules and Underground Distribution:**
  • Prepare cable schedules detailing cable types, sizes, lengths, and routing.
  • Design underground distribution systems, considering factors like load distribution and fault tolerance.
  • **Grounding and Lighting Design:**
  • Design grounding systems to ensure safety, stability, and proper fault current dissipation.
  • Develop lighting layouts for outdoor areas, considering visibility, energy efficiency, and aesthetics.
  • **Utility Coordination:**
  • Collaborate with utility companies to ensure seamless integration of the electrification infrastructure.
  • Address any utility-related challenges or requirements.
  • **Interdisciplinary Collaboration:**
  • Work closely with civil, mechanical, and other engineering disciplines to harmonize designs.
  • Coordinate with architects, structural, civil, and construction teams.
  • **Software Proficiency:**
  • Utilize power system study software such as ETAP and SKM for load flow analysis, short-circuit studies, and protective device coordination.Project-Specific Focus Areas:
    • **Fleet Electrification:**
    • Design charging infrastructure for electric vehicle fleets, considering charging station locations, power requirements, and resiliency.
    • **Trucking Electrification:**
    • Develop solutions for electrifying trucking fleets, including depot charging stations and fast-charging hubs.
    • **Shore Power Design:**
    • Create shore power systems for ships and vessels, enabling them to connect to the grid while docked.
    • **L2 and L3 Charging Hubs:**
    • Design Level 2 (L2) and Level 3 (L3) charging hubs, considering high-power charging requirements and user convenience.Mentoring and Leadership:
      • As a Lead Consultant, you'll mentor junior engineers, providing guidance and sharing your expertise.Qualifications and Skills:
        • Education: Typically, a relevant bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering.
        • Deep knowledge of NEC
        • Desired Skills: Familiarity with IEEE standards, electrical systems, SKM and ETAP software, NFPA, and standard engineering techniques.
        • Experience: +10 years of experience
        • Knowledge of electrical engineering principles, practices, processes, design/build, and the application to permitting and project work-related issues.
        • Familiarity with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management, including rehabilitation and new design.
        • Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
        • Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
        • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
        • Experience with technical writing, office automation, discipline-specific design software (i.e., CADD, REVIT, ETAP, SKM)
        • Experienced with providing critical reviews for documents and preparing technical deliverables and plans with high complexity.
        • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
        • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.Preferred Qualifications:
