Base pay range$90,000.00/yr - $110,000.00/yrAbout KidspaceKidspace
Children's Museum (KCM), located in Pasadena, CA, is a leading
nonprofit cultural institution devoted to excellence in play-based
learning and discovery. KCM seeks a dynamic, thoughtful, and
collaborative Director of Development to actively partner with
museum leadership.Position SummaryThe Director of Development (DOD)
is a hybrid home/office position that will report to the Chief
Administrative Officer. The DOD will provide leadership and
direction through the planning, organization, coordination, and
implementation of a comprehensive fundraising program. This
position will help develop and implement plans and establish
policies to build the Kidspace fundraising program.
Responsibilities include fundraising, resource development, annual
giving, stewardship, grant writing, corporate/foundations relations
programs, planned giving, data management, and friend-builder
events.The Director of Development will build and oversee a
development team.Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the CAO to create and implement a
comprehensive development plan for the organization, including
plans for annual giving, foundation and corporate support, and
individual major and planned gifts.
- Develop and manage a dynamic portfolio of high-net-worth
individuals to secure major, capital, and planned gifts, as well as
annual gifts and endowment support.
- Build data management function and practices.
- Work closely with the CAO and CEO to create strategic board
development, relationship, and management strategies.
- Personally participate in top-level fundraising activities,
including cultivation and solicitations.
- Ensure the success of events, including cultivation activities
and signature fundraising/friend builder events.
- Work with the Chief Executive Officer, board and volunteers and
others within the organization to identify linkage, ability, and
interest of major gift prospects.
- Support the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Administrative
Officer, and other staff and key volunteers in their major gift
work.
- Staff the Development Committee of the board, providing input
to their efforts.
- Create appropriate activities and recognition for donors at all
levels.
- Ensure proper stewardship practices for the timely and accurate
recording and acknowledgement of all gifts.
- Maintain ongoing and active networking with internal and
external constituencies.
- Represent the organization in the community as
appropriate.
- Manage the Development department's annual operating budget and
revenue plan.
- Write quarterly fundraising reports and oversee Annual
Report.
- Maintain clear and consistent oral and written contact with the
CEO, Board, staff peers, and volunteers for the purpose of
collaboration, the exchange of information, to provide progress
reports.
- All other duties as assigned.Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and
experience.
- 7+ years of progressively responsible fundraising experience
and a proven record of successful cultivation, solicitation, and
stewardship of gifts of at least six-figures.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of all areas of fundraising,
with a particular emphasis on individual giving at all levels.
- Experience working with a board of trustees or directors.
- Proven track record in planning and achieving short- and
long-term goals.
- Exceptional interpersonal and influencing skills, tact and
diplomacy with the ability to develop and maintain cooperative and
successful working relationships with volunteers, staff and all
donors; ability to serve as a team player and leader.
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively
about engaging donors, and to develop plans of action and follow
through.
- Ability to inspire and motivate volunteers and staff.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Integrity and fiscal accountability.
- Must be willing and available to work evenings and weekends
according to event-related scheduling.
- Experience in planning and working with donor management and
data management systems strongly preferred.
